The project, dubbed the Energy World Tower, is being developed by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the largest US solar industry trade group.
Solar energy is a relatively new technology, and has been developed in many countries over the past 15 years, but the US is currently the world leader.
It will become the second largest solar market in the world, after China, by 2030.
The Energy World project is part of a larger project, the Energy Convergence Solar Power System (ECSP), which aims to produce enough clean energy to power a million homes, by 2050.
Solar is a cheap way to generate electricity, but it requires large quantities of water, land and fossil fuels.
SEIA has been helping to make that possible, and the company says the project is now in its final stages.

Solar panel manufacturer Panasonic has signed an agreement with a small US company to design and build a new, “solar-free” array.
The company has also set up a fund to raise the necessary funds for the project.
The solar panels will be used in a number of projects, such as building power stations, making batteries for electric cars and creating wind turbines.
The money will be paid by the company, which will then use the funds to help the project get off the ground.
The news comes after the US government, under pressure from the White House to make the panels more energy efficient, announced last year that it was setting up a new government-funded energy research programme.
