The federal government is stepping up its rural emergency assistance to help those struggling with severe rural weather, but some say it is missing out on key information.
The Rural Development Department has launched a website that is designed to provide information on the most common questions about rural emergencies.
It is an important tool for emergency responders and the people who live and work in rural areas.
“This is a huge challenge.
It’s really important that the government knows what is happening,” said Bob Steeve, the department’s director of emergency preparedness and response.
“We need to get in front of this as quickly as possible.”
The site is not a government database, Steeves said.
It also is not available for people who are already receiving assistance, or who may be experiencing hardship.
The website, called “the Rural Development Guide,” was created to help rural emergency responders find answers to the most commonly asked questions about disaster preparedness.
For example, who is eligible for rural emergency help?
How long is a rural emergency?
Who pays for the assistance?
How does a disaster impact the rural economy?
How do people living in rural communities benefit from emergency relief?
What is the role of the provinces and territories?
What are the options for assistance for people in rural emergency areas?
The answers to these questions are included in a national map of the country.
In addition, the map also includes information on local governments and local governments’ regional emergency management agencies, as well as the rural emergency planning and emergency response organizations that operate in rural and remote communities.
There are some limitations.
For instance, it is not possible to directly connect to the government website and get information from the Department of Agriculture and Food and Rural Affairs.
The department does provide rural emergency response information on its website, but it is a limited resource.
Steeves said it is important for the federal government to develop a national disaster response plan that will address the needs of all Canadians.
“You have to do a better job of getting to the bottom of these types of issues,” he said.
“And we are doing that.”
Steeven said the government has been doing its best to provide disaster relief in the face of major storms and floods, but the government still has a long way to go in meeting its disaster preparedning goals.
“The reality is that we don’t know how many people are eligible for this, what they’re eligible for, or whether they’re able to get assistance,” he told CBC News.
“So the bottom line is, it’s a challenge.”
The Rural Emergency Planning Program is an initiative of the Canadian Rural Municipalities Association.
The federal department is providing funding to the association to help with training and capacity building, Steesve said.
The group said it plans to hire more staff, which will include an emergency response team, to work in areas where they have expertise.
“Rural emergency planning is not new to Canada, but in recent years, it has become a priority,” the group said in a news release.
“In this effort, the federal governments will partner with the Association and provide a broad range of services and training to support our members and their staff.”
