I grew up in rural Oregon and have been to every major city in the US, so I know a thing or two about the locals.
But I’ve never had a chance to visit my local church.
That was until this year.
My favorite local church, St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Eugene, is located in a beautiful rural setting on the banks of the Columbia River, but the congregation’s only available to the faithful.
The church has a history dating back to the 1800s, but I’m still not quite sure how long the congregation has been in existence.
When I reached out to St. Joe’s, they told me they’re planning to open a new building at the corner of North Highway and East Columbia River Drive that will house a new congregation.
That new church will serve as a place of sanctuary for the congregation as it moves to the new location.
The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in the new church is that the interior is a bit different than any other church I’ve seen.
The interior is covered with wood and metal, so that when you enter, you don’t feel like you’re being robbed or invaded.
But this isn’t just any church.
The new building is also being designed to serve as the congregation meets for worship, but instead of going straight to the pulpit, there will be a sanctuary for those who can’t attend.
I’m not sure what this sanctuary will look like, but we’re guessing it will be similar to the sanctuary in the Catholic church that I grew to love.
The new building will be located in the historic, former St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral on the north side of the river.
The old church was originally built in 1894, and it was demolished in 2006.
In 2007, the church was demolished, and the property was sold to the City of Eugene.
The property is now owned by St. James Cathedral.
When the church reopened, St Joe’s was able to bring in a small congregation that would fill the sanctuary space.
This congregation, which will be the first in Oregon to use a sanctuary, was formed in 2009, and they are currently serving about 70 people in the sanctuary.
The sanctuary will be made up of two areas.
The first area will be filled with a wooden wall that will serve to separate the congregation from the rest of the congregation.
I have a feeling this will be used for mass, which is what I think the new sanctuary will serve.
The other area will have a concrete wall that divides the sanctuary from the other areas of the church.
I imagine this will serve a similar purpose, but it will also serve as an entrance to the church, and will allow for the worship to continue.
I’ve always thought that the sanctuary was a good thing for a small, religious congregation to have, so it’s exciting to see the church expanding its reach in a new, beautiful building.
This is the second new church that has opened in the Eugene area in recent years.
St. Augustine Church, located on the corner near South Main Street and Interstate 84, is a small Catholic parish in a former logging town on the outskirts of Eugene, and I have heard that it was a popular location for people to gather.
I love the idea of a new sanctuary in a place that was once a logging town, and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Salem is also looking to open its doors in the Portland area.
Both of these new churches will serve the larger downtown area, and as more of the new arrivals arrive, I hope that we’ll see more churches open up on the riverfront.
In the meantime, stay tuned to TechCrunch for more coverage of the region as it continues to grow.
